Lil Gus is the tiniest puppy. At just over 6 weeks old, he is barely a pound, which means he will likely be around 3½ pounds at a year old. Sometimes these little ones surprise us and grow more than expected, but odds are he will remain a teacup‑sized pup.

“Gus Gus,” as I call him, has a darling, spunky personality. He can be a bit shy at first, but he is also incredibly feisty when the moment calls for it. He does not tolerate any nonsense. His momma, Leia, once accidentally trampled him in her excitement to greet me. I watched him go tumbling with all four paws in the air and heard the cutest little offended growl as he scrambled back to his feet. I swear he even had a tiny, peeved look on his face. I could not help but laugh as I scooped him up to soothe his bruised feelings.

These pups can have such big personalities at such young ages. Lil Gus is going to be quite the character.
