Genevieve is a little fighter who almost didn’t make it. It took a whole team (human, canine, and even caprine) to help her pull through.
She was one of five puppies born to the beautiful Alfiegirl. Alfie is a wonderful momma, but five babies is quite the challenge. The smallest two were Genevieve and her incredibly tiny sister. That tiny girl struggled to thrive from the start, and in a desperate attempt to help her survive, we gave her to another momma, the sweet Tilly, who had recently lost her entire litter in an unrelated tragedy.
Tilly is absolutely darling and adores all babies. She was thrilled to have a little one to love and got straight to work doing her best. Heartbreakingly, nothing we or she did seemed to be enough. We suspect the little darling didn’t stand a chance due to internal issues, which is sometimes the case when a pup is unusually small. It makes us very sad when the time for a little one to cross the rainbow bridge comes so much sooner than we would like, but we console ourselves that such is life at times. Who are we to argue with the forces of nature?
Genevieve did well with her mom Alfiegirl and her three siblings at first, but shortly after her sister passed, she began to struggle to get her fair share of milk. Her siblings quickly outgrew her and unintentionally crowded her out. At the first sign of trouble, we moved quickly and gave her to Tilly.
Tilly sprang into action again, fiercely protective of her latest little adopted bean and determined to help her thrive. Thanks to her care (and a fair few middle-of-the-night bottle feedings with fresh milk courtesy of the lovely Blossom the Goat) Genevieve has grown up strong and brave. We’re thrilled to say she’s out of the woods as a healthy, happy, albeit tiny, little girl. Her adoptive momma Tilly is very proud of her. And so are we.
